Allie Kieffer Withdraws from NYC Half and London Marathon

By Adam Kopet

Allie Kieffer will not be racing this spring according to a recent post she made on Instagram. Injury has forced her to withdraw from Sunday's United Airlines NYC Half and next month's Virgin Money London Marathon.

I’ve been dreading writing this post. And calling my agent. And contacting race directors. And sponsors. And admitting to myself, as well, that I can’t continue the season. It seemed like if I hid from the truth I might be able to escape it. That if I didn’t say I had to put the season on hold I may be able to push through. But denial has been wreaking havoc on my happiness. And now that I’ve had all the truth telling calls I’ve realized I have a lot of people on my side, not people to run from. Unfortunately there will be no #UnitedNYCHalf, #BayRace, or #LondonMarathon for me. Instead I’ll be at home coming up with a better rehab routine and sharing it! Thanks to everyone for the support. 🤞🏼for a happier, healthier 2019🙌🏼 . . 📷: @run.photography

After a breakout race at the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon where she finished fifth in 2:29:39, Kieffer set personal bests at distances ranging from 5K up to the marathon in 2018. She won the 2018 Doha Half Marathon in a personal best 1:10:40. She also ran 2:28:12 for seventh place at the 2018 New York City Marathon, another personal best.

Kieffer will also miss the Around the Bay 30K Road Race in Hamilton, Ontario on March 31.
